Submission Guidelines for Rumble Strip Books

Thank you for your interest in submitting your work to WindWord Group Publishing & Media. We are open to submissions only for a Rumble Strip Books project -- no other ideas, thanks! Your research must have taken place in 2018, 2019 or 2020 and there must be high-quality photographs to support the text.

Please begin with a query of 200 to 300 words. Send us an email with a brief description of your manuscript: destination, timing of the trip, story narrative (beginning, middle and end), and general tone. We're looking for projects that that are a mashup of memoir and guidebook: a personal tone, with lots of observation, comment and reaction to the events of the trip plus useful information about the destination.

Please take a look at one of the previous Rumble Strip Books  Show us your writing style in the query. Let us know if you have other books in print, particularly if they are travel books.

If you would like to write a book that fits the Rumble Strip format and we give you the green light on your query, we'll invite you to send a Book Proposal. The proposal must include a cover letter; an outline or Table of Contents; a synopsis; one or two sample chapters; your bio or resume, with details on any previous publishing history; links to your website and social accounts; your thoughts on and intentions for marketing, including information on other current titles similar to your book, a market analysis of the readers for these books, and your insights on why you are uniquely qualified to write this book; your projected completion date. The Book Proposal should not run more than 30 pages. The finished manuscript will be 35,000 to 50,000 words.

We cannot use previously published work.

Please don't send a completed manuscript or a book proposal unless we ask for it. Please don't send any irreplaceable materials. Please don't send any hard copies through the mail or a delivery service. We handle the submission process using email only. We are not responsible for any unsolicited material sent and will not return anything. We will not respond to or confirm receipt of anything we haven't asked for.

If you are submitting your proposal or manuscript to any other publishers simultaneously, please let us know in your cover letter.

We will add you to our email newsletter list, to receive updates on the progress of the books, any changes in Submission Guidelines, scheduling, etc. If we invite you to submit a Book Proposal, we'll get back to you in four to six weeks. Please let us know if you place the manuscript with another publisher and want to rescind your Book Proposal.

If we want to accept your Book Proposal, we'll email you to find out whether your manuscript is still available.

We'll review your finished manuscript and discuss going forward. The arrangement we make would be on a traditional publishing model: you will not be asked to contribute or invest any money. After publication, we'll be paying a standard royalty. There is no advance. We will be managing the editing, design, production, printing, distribution and sales functions, and sharing the marketing activities with you.

Email submissions only, please. No attachments. Please do not send queries or proposals about any other sort of books.
If we do not have a place for your road trip story as a full-length book but you would like to have it also considered for inclusion in one of our anthologies, after revision, please let us know in your cover letter.
We're looking forward to hearing from you! Please send your query to admin@windwordgroup.com or use the contact form on the website.
